So, Albert Haynesworth is a big fail x2. Twice this week he has tried to complete Coach Shanahan’s conditioning tests and twice he has failed. Reports are that this test consists of two 300 yard shuttle runs. Shanahan has said Haynesworth won’t be able to practice until he passes and that even when he does he will start out practicing with the reserves. That’s what you get for holding out and mouthing off in a Shanahan organization apparently.

Tim Tebow is having a good week. He has signed a deal with the Broncos today, and he also agreed to a do an endorsement with Jockey.
The deal is for “five years with $8.7 million guaranteed and a $11. 25 million base value and worth a maximum value of $33 million” according to USA Today. I’m hoping with this Tebow announcement, all the hoopla about him will go bye-bye. Now it’s time for people stop talking about what this cat can do and just do it.
In the meantime, it looks like he’s going to have a great weekend.
Terrell Owens is going to be on the Bengals. USA Today reports that he signed a one-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals. Do you know what this means? T.O. and Ochocinco on the same team? I love it!
The deal is worth $2 million for one year. T.O. will also have the possibility to earn and additional $2 million in incentives.
I think I’ve established by now that I have very ambivalent feelings about ex-players chiming in about how their team is doing, especially when they are critical. I just plain don’t like it. Sure, it’s nice to see one of the old legends endorse the current quarterback or say he believes the current team is going all the way, but other than that, I just get a knot in my stomach when I see them out publicly making comments. To that end, here’s Joe Namath piping in about the Jets and the their supposed interest in Terrell Owens.
Poor Sergio Kindle! The Ravens draft pick just fell down a flight of stairs in his Austin, Texas home. He’s recovering and will take some time before training camp to make sure he’s back to 100%. I have no idea if this fall will hurt his chances of getting a deal now. It’s rough, especially when something like this happens right before you’re about to make your debut. He’s been a great player for the Longhorns, but you know the NFL is a bigger kettle of fish. He still has to prove that he’s “signworthy.”

I have never seen a player get so much love as has been the case with the Packers‘ Aaron Rodgers. I can see why people are excited. After all, the one thing you worry about when you lose a future hall of fame quarterback is having to sit through a few bum years while you try and locate someone who can keep you in the win column. Rodgers has seemed to pulled that off. But is he really “as good as Favre”? The Green Bay Press Gazette seems to think so. They’ve even gone so far as to call him “elite.”
Kim Kardashian never stays single for very long, and even though she and Reggie Bush are kaput, she’s rebounded nicely with another NFL player. She’s been dating Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin. Not only is Austin incredibly handsome and a great player, he’s buds with Wisconsin boy (and fellow Dallas player) Tony Romo. More than that, he calls Romo his “fame coach.”

The NFL allowed the flawed and much criticized work of their helmet research committee to be made public knowledge this week. Not only did they put the at best misleading and at worst flat wrong research information to become public knowledge but they then had to deal with a backlash from Congress and unbelievable statements from the newly reformed committee member Dr. Richard G. Ellenbogen. This information is not only dubious it is potentially dangerous.

So far this pre-season I have seen polls ranking the Patriots everywhere from fifth to 15th. In almost every single one the poll maker brings up the questions about Wes Welker. When will he return? Will he be the same? Will he be completely healthy? One question has been answered Welker will be fully cleared to participate in Patriots training camp.
It remains to be seen if he does participate much in training camp or pre-season, but fully cleared to participate does mean he would be ineligible for the PUP list and would therefore most likely start for the Pats week 1 of the regular season. If Welker is ready for week 1 and he comes back the way he was before the injury, all these pre-season polls will look pretty ridiculous.
I’m not sure if John Elway is suddenly being more vocal about football because he actually cares or if he wants to remain relevant in his search to buy into ownership of an NFL team. I don’t remember Elway commenting that much on the Broncos before except to complain (which isn’t as endearing as you’d think!), so it was a pleasant surprise to see him say something nice. Too bad it was about Tim Tebow, who already has so many people trying to tell us that he won’t be the next Tony Mandarich (read: overpaid flop) that I’m wondering if there is a “defend Tim Tebow” club out there.
